BuildBeat 2007.R1 Supports Microsoft Team Foundation Server, Cross-Platform Building, MySQL Database, and more

March 2, 2007 / Colorado Springs, CO

Timpani Software has enhanced its flagship product, BuildBeat, with the release of BuildBeat 2007.R1.

The latest release of BuildBeat extends its rich feature set and ease of use nature to cross-platform systems. Prior to this release, BuildBeat, which is based on a .NET architecture, ran exclusively on Microsoft Windows platforms. "The market clearly desires cross-platform build capabilities in a build management system," said Kevin Dietz, founder and CEO of Timpani Software. "As far as I know, we are the only .NET architected build management system that offers cross-platform capabilities."

To run on non-Microsoft operating systems, BuildBeat uses the open source Mono project to access the .NET Framework compatible system libraries. Mono runs on nearly all Linux/Unix-type operating systems, and comes pre-installed on many of the latest distributions of Linux. More information on Mono can be found at http://www.mono-project.com

To support cross-platform usage, BuildBeat's back-end relational database architecture now supports MySQL databases, in addition to Microsoft SQL Server databases. Both database servers are available in free and commercial versions.

Also new in BuildBeat 2007 is support for Microsoft's Team Foundation Server version control system. BuildBeat can support a continuous integration workflow against TFS Version Control by monitoring its repositories. Continuous integration is also available for CVS repositories.

Rounding out the release, BuildBeat 2007 adds a command-line interface that can be used for administration duties in place of the BuildBeat Administrator.
